History of a true reporter and editor:

Analysis:

During his last broadcast, Smith stated “No one person can change the direction of a nation.” His comment was in relation to individuals and groups attempting to, through violence and intimidation, tear down the democracy and install a new form of governance. It could be said that not much has changed since the period of 1960 – 1970s.

At the time of Mr. Smith’s last broadcast the country was at the end of the Vietnam conflict. The political scene and public demonstrations had been quite destructive of the concept of objective government, responsibility and accountability. Demonstrations included burning of banks and police vehicles, shooting of judges in court and about anything imaginable.

The response from the public and government at large was to back-off from activists being held accountable for their destructive actions.
